Palace of Versailles {France}

On our last day in France, we decided last-minute to visit Versailles and we ended up spending half a day there. Be advised they are closed on Mondays so plan accordingly. We took the RER train and it took ~40 minutes to get there. Try to arrive early as lines can get really long. Because we had the Paris 2-day pass we skipped the line.

Palace of Versailles also known as Chateau de Versailles was built in the 18th century and is on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List and most visited attraction in France. The extravagant exterior and interior make it well worth the visit.

Hall of Mirrors was my favorite part! It is the central gallery of the palace. It is a room full of 300+ mirrors of intricate detail in every corner from top to bottom.

Walk outside to the impressive Versailles Garden. Lushes green manicured grass, blooming flowers, fountains and an amazing view of the lake. It’s 250 acres of beautiful landscape.

Continue to walk down to the park (15 minute walk). I loved our bike ride! I highly recommend renting a bike if you can. It was a perfect sunny & blue sky day to ride around the lake. You can also rent a boat. It was truly romantic!

Visit The Grand Trianon (20 minute walk from the main palace). Not as grand as Palace of Versailles, of course, but it still has its charm. Louis XIV built The Grand Trianon as a little get-away for him and his family. It was also used as a guest house for French presidents.

We had the BEST time in Europe and since it was our first international trip it holds a very special place in our heart. Although we only had 2 weeks, it gave us a good idea of which places we would like to spend more time when we return. Out of the 3 countries we visited, I must say Italy was our most favorite. We are looking forward to visiting more destinations in Europe so stayed tuned :).

P.S. Have you been to Versailles and how was your experience? Please leave a comment below. I would love to hear from you even if it’s just to say hello :).
